We encourage all pet owners to get their pets neutered/spayed as it is the only permanent, 100-percent effective method of birth control for dogs and cats. At the Center we perform the operation while the pet is under anesthesia. Depending on your pet's age, size and health, he or she will stay at the Center for a few hours or a few days.
You can also enjoy your spayed or neutered pet more. Female pets that have been spayed do not go into heat. You won't have the mess that comes with the female reproductive cycle or the boisterous, noisy male suitors. Spaying and neutering may also reduce the risk of certain health problems - like pyometra which is very common, sever and life threatening - offering you more years with your beloved dog or cat.
Canine Parvovirus (CPV):
The Center receives large number of puppies affected with severe parvovirus infection. The puppies admitted have a history of being brought from either unlicensed pet stores or illegal breeding procedures.
The symptoms always include severe bloody diarrhea, bloody vomiting, anorexia and anemia. Saving such difficult cases is not an easy thing, the puppy should continuously be attached to an intravenous line to support him with the fluids to compensate for the fluids the body is losing, in addition to antibiotics to overcome the infection.
Most of the cases take 5-10 days to recover (sometimes up to two weeks) but other cases unfortunately die due to severe septicemia. Dogs who become infected have a 50-50 chance of survival.
